YUMMY CAKES but much more as well for 2011.

It is five year since Wells was first declared a FairtradeTown and year on year the momentum has grown. This Fairtrade Fortnight saw lots of participation and celebration. The Staithe Street tasting stall had lots on offer including mulled wine and hot chocolate, very welcome on the bitterly cold days, also orange juice and to celebrate our 5th birthday, celebration cake containing lots of fairly traded ingredients.

The children from Wells Primary and Nursery School had an assembly with a Fairtrade theme and some of the older children spent a lunchtime chatting about Fairtrade issues as they designed their own FT bunting. Loops of bunting were used to decorate several of the shops which stock Fairtrade products.

At the Alderman Peel High School some of the year 9 pupils watched a DVD about Fairtrade and a group went on to make banana and chocolate muffins. The results looked extremely impressive.

This year the Fairtrade Foundation posters challenged us to "show off your label," and awareness of the Fairtrade logo and what it stand for continues.

The Women's Institute were involved in the celebration with Fairtrade coffee and cakes on offer along with a very interesting talk by Caroline Norton on her visits to Palestine to help with the olive harvest which provides Fairtrade olive oil.

If you were unfortunate enough to miss the Fairtrade Fortnight trailers at Screen-next-the-Sea perhaps you spotted the WAFT posters in the library.

We all hope everyone continues to look for the FT logo; your shopping choices can make the world a fairer place.

No wonder these pupils from Alderman Peel High School have smiles on their faces. They have made some yummy banana and chocolate muffins using Fairtrade ingredients.

I wonder if Arthur Howell has been tempted with the Fairtrade Mulled Wine!

Doesn't it look lovely and cosy in the WI Hall where visitors have gathered together to celebrate WAFT's (Wells Action for Fairtrade) 5th birthday. Coffee and cakes everyone.
